Accessible Disordered Eating and Mental Health Support with Student Therapists

Ottawa Eating Disorders | The Balanced Practice Inc | Ottawa, ON

We know that accessing therapy can be a significant financial investment. Our low-cost therapy option was created to make specialized care more accessible while also supporting the growth and training of emerging clinicians in the eating disorder field.

At The Balanced Practice, Low-cost therapy is provided by student therapists completing their practicum placement under the supervision of Monique Robinson, an experienced Registered Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor who specializes in eating disorder care.

How Low-Cost Therapy Works

Student therapists are therapists-in-training who have completed their master’s-level coursework and are now completing their clinical practicum placement. This practicum is where they begin providing therapy under the supervision and guidance of an experienced clinician.

When you work with a student therapist, you are receiving care from someone who is actively developing their clinical skills while being closely supported through regular supervision, consultation, and oversight. This means your care is not happening in isolation. Your student therapist is part of The Balanced Practice team and receives ongoing support to ensure your therapy is thoughtful, ethical, collaborative, and aligned with our approach to eating disorder and mental health care.

Low-Cost Therapy Fees

Low-cost therapy is offered at a reduced rate.

Initial assessment: $150 (75-minutes)

Ongoing therapy sessions: $100 per session (50-minutes)

Low-cost therapy may be a good fit if you are looking for accessible support and are open to working with a therapist-in-training who is supervised by an experienced Registered Psychotherapist. This option can be a supportive fit for clients seeking therapy for

  • Eating disorder recovery
  • Disordered eating
  • Body image concerns
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Depression and mood-related concerns
  • Emotional regulation
  • Self-esteem and self-worth
  • Life challenges and transitions
  • Relationship with food and body

All care at The Balanced Practice is grounded in a weight-inclusive, trauma-informed, collaborative, and compassionate approach.

Because student therapists are still developing their clinical skills, this service may not be the best fit for clients who require a higher level of care, intensive eating disorder treatment, or significant risk support. If you are unsure whether this option is the right fit, our team can help guide you through the next steps.
