At The Balanced Practice, we believe good healthcare starts with curiosity. Rather than jumping straight to a protocol, supplement, diet, or one-size-fits-all recommendation, we want to understand the bigger picture: what you’re experiencing, what matters to you, what has already been explored, and what support might actually be helpful.
Our approach to Naturopathic Care is collaborative, evidence-informed, weight-inclusive, and grounded in your individual needs. Your Naturopathic Doctor may collaborate with your physician, Registered Dietitian, therapist, or other healthcare providers to make sure your care feels connected rather than fragmented.
Naturopathic Care at The Balanced Practice is provided by a registered Naturopathic Doctor (ND). In Ontario, NDs are regulated healthcare professionals governed by the College of Naturopaths of Ontario. They assess health concerns and provide naturopathic care within a defined professional scope.
Naturopathic Doctors are not Medical Doctors or physicians. They are distinct healthcare professions with different education, scopes of practice, and roles within the healthcare system. When something requires assessment or treatment outside of your ND’s scope, we will recommend connecting with the appropriate healthcare professional.
We start by slowing things down and getting curious about what’s going on.
Your Naturopathic Doctor will take time to understand your health history, current concerns, symptoms, medications and supplements, lifestyle, relationship with food and movement, mental health, previous investigations, and the other healthcare providers involved in your care.
Together, you’ll explore what might be helpful next.
Depending on your needs, that could include reviewing existing health information or bloodwork, considering whether additional laboratory testing within the ND’s scope may be appropriate, reviewing medications and supplements, discussing nutrition or lifestyle factors, or exploring other naturopathic treatment options.
Naturopathic Care can support a range of health concerns. Depending on what you’re experiencing and what is appropriate within your ND’s scope, you may seek support with:
You don’t need to know exactly what is causing your symptoms before reaching out.
Eating disorders can affect many aspects of physical health, and recovery often involves support from several different healthcare professionals.
At TBP, a Naturopathic Doctor can be an additional member of your eating disorder treatment team. Their role is not to replace your physician, Registered Dietitian, therapist, or other eating disorder providers, but to offer another layer of support when physical health concerns are showing up alongside recovery.
You might consider adding a Naturopathic Doctor to your treatment team if you are:
Most importantly, naturopathic care at TBP is recovery-aligned, weight-inclusive, and collaborative. We understand that recommendations around food, movement, weight, supplements, and “health” can have a very different impact when someone is navigating an eating disorder.
Our goal is to support your physical health without reinforcing restrictions, food rules, fear, weight preoccupation, or other eating disorder behaviours.

You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what kind of support you need. Part of our job is helping you figure that out.
No.
Naturopathic doctors and medical doctors are distinct healthcare professionals with different training, regulatory requirements, and scopes of practice. In Ontario, naturopathic doctors are regulated by the College of Naturopaths of Ontario.
Naturopathic Care at TBP is intended to complement your existing healthcare, not replace care from a family physician, nurse practitioner, medical specialist, emergency department, or other medical provider.
At TBP, we currently provide secure virtual appointments with our naturopathic doctor to clients located in Ontario.
Many extended health insurance plans provide coverage for appointments with registered naturopathic doctors.
Coverage varies between plans, so we recommend confirming your individual benefits directly with your insurance provider.
We provide receipts that you can submit for reimbursement.
No referral is required to get started.
Depending on what you’re looking for support with, your naturopathic doctor may recommend involving or following up with another member of your healthcare team.
No. Supplements and herbal products are tools that may sometimes be considered, but are not requirements, and not the foundation of every treatment plan.
When something is recommended, your ND will discuss why it is being considered, what evidence supports its use, possible risks or interactions, alternatives, and whether the cost and burden of taking it are actually worthwhile for you. Sometimes the right number of supplements is zero.
